Thoughts On My Work

Picture
I began my career in the mail order business, a mixed media of creativity, fashion design, copy writing, and frantic deadlines. Old Singer sewing machines stitched yards of lovely fabric  into exotic Scintilla Satin  Bed Sheets, my parents creation.  There was a whole catalog of soft , lush items we were all proud to produce.  How fortunate I was to have worked in such a magical and free space.

At home,  with paintbrush in hand I attacked (as my children said) walls, doors, bedposts, boxes and chairs, just to see what would happen.

Well, those multicolored bolts of satin have now become tubes of acrylic paint another magical medium, thin as water or thick as paste, with the potential for challenge and change just like our super fun business.

Once more I can't wait to see if something new and exciting will happen, and, every time brush touches paper  it usually does! Questions arise!  Why is simplicity so difficult?  Are there really an infinite variety of muddy colors?  Where did that translucent layering come from and how do I do it again?

The"fashion designs" have now been transformed into whatever season or thought strikes my fancy. "The mail" is the occasional commission, "my success" the praise  from a friendly viewer or the  coveted Honorary Mention of official approval.  I've been given  the unquestionably biased love and encouragement of my family and friends.  Who could ask for anything more?
